Short and Long Term Psychotherapy
Depending on the issues you seek treatment for, and those we both agree should be addressed, I offer both short- and long-term therapy options. Your treatment is uniquely tailored specifically to you, your goals, and your objectives.
Problem-solving Short Term
For individuals with specific issues and concerns, I offer brief, problem-solving short term therapy, with specific and discrete goal and treatment planning, coaching, and problem resolution. Goal-oriented, focused treatments often require no more than 12 sessions for significant and lasting symptom improvement.
Due in part to my education and training in various settings, I had the unique opportunity to learn and practice from two of the major schools of psychology, using Cognitive Behavioral Strategies and Psychodynamic techniques. In my own practice today, I rely heavily on both areas, depending on the patient's need, maturity, and challenges.
I previously facilitated support groups for individuals and families affected by cancer at the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Cancer Center in Trumbull, CT. I periodically run pre-and post-partum support groups and psychotherapy groups for female adolescents, social skills training groups for adolescents, parenting support groups, and other topics based on community needs and interest level. Please contact me to inquire about current offerings.
Relaxation and Stress Reduction
My personal and professional experiences and training have demonstrated to me that relaxation and stress management techniques are critical tools that benefit almost everyone in today's fast-paced society. I can help you learn to use relaxation strategies to reduce stress, become more effective, improve your mood, sleep, and productivity, and cope with life's stressors.
I am trained to help individuals manage specific phobias and anxiety utilizing a range of therapies, including but not limited to exposure therapy, fear hierarchies, anxiety sensitivity, and related modalities. I work closely with patients suffering from anxiety to help them recognize cues and manage their fears safely, effectively, and confidently.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
DBT was initially developed to help individuals with particular psychological issues that impacted their ability to deal with challenges in life. In the years since, it has gained popularity and utility and DBT is currently used across a variety of settings, including schools, counseling, and mental health settings. The effects of learning the skills taught in DBT can be both life-enhancing and life-changing.
My experience working in inpatient and crisis intervention settings has equipped me with multiple modalities useful for helping people in dire need of support and emergent intervention. I provide crisis evaluations, intervention and support on a limited basis, based on my current case load and ability to tend to the needs of those seeking this service.
